The Orient Story

Frankly, I haven’t met a lot of people who would make Orient watches their first choice. In fact, not many folks know much about the Orient brand of watches. Shopping for watches, most folks just pick out the most visible brand of the time, quite often ignoring some of the best quality watches that are to be had. Truly, Orient is one of the most unappreciated brands that you could find.

Being a watch fan of sorts, I love to know the history of the brands but unfortunately, I didn’t have much info on the Orient brand. I decided to change that and began reading up on the brand. From its humble beginnings at a Tokyo-based watch shop, today Orient has succeeded in reaching the pinnacle of fame in the international world of horology.

The origins of the Orient brand lie in the Yoshida Watch Shop which was established in Tokyo in 1901. From selling imported pocket watches Shogoro Yoshida’s small venture progressed into making table clocks and by the 1950’s was manufacturing wrist watches. The name “Orient Watch Co.” came into being in 1951, the same year the Orient Star was launched. During the next decade, the company began exporting its products first to China and then to USA and Canada. By the 1970’s the Orient brand was slowly gaining a foothold in the international watch market.

It is no wonder that in the present times, despite the stiff competition from various renowned watch manufacturers Orient has managed to find its place not only in the international markets but also won the hearts of the layman consumers. To get an idea of the brand’s popularity you only need to go through the several online stores selling wrist watches, they all have a huge variety of Orient watches on display.

With the Orient brand, there is something for everyone.  A few reasons why you should have an Orient in your collection: firstly, Orient watches are affordable and economical. For someone aspiring to own a Swiss Automatic, the Orient is a worthy enough substitute for a fraction of the price. Other aspects that make an Orient worthwhile is the fact that they keep accurate time besides being extremely durable.

And what’s not to like about their looks? I personally feel that Orient watches are some of the most well-designed timepieces. Full marks to the Orient for the look and style. With respect to the quality and durability, the Orient brand makes reliable timepieces that are built to last.

Several reasons to own an Orient timepiece. Check out the UK website of City Watches here: https://www.citywatches.co.uk/.  I’m sure you’ll find the right one from the varied display of more than 150 models.
